Why is the value of a higher education degree declining? According to the American Association of Colleges and Universities, most employers are not satisfied with the college graduates’ ability to manage their own stress and well-being, pay attention to the details of their jobs, think critically and analytically to resolve problems, and propose creative solutions. From their perspective, college graduates are just not getting the skills they need to be successful. That is why we created a 10-week and 16-week training program to begin to address these unmet learning and development outcomes while strengthening peace and compassion among the students who participate in the program. We need your help to bring this training program to community college and university students all over the country.
As a college professor at San Diego State University and founder of Rushing to Yoga Foundation, daily I witness the unlimited potential of the students I serve and the factors that keep many of them from even attempting to reach their potential. Disheartened from not being able to reach these students in the limited course offerings available, we decided there had to be a better solution.
"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all these".
~ George Washington Carver
So, we created a non-profit foundation and designed a 10-week and 16-week training program using the latest research in cognitive neuro-science. The training program is designed to enhance students’ critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and creativity while reducing stress and improving their overall well-being, compassionate communication, and sense of self. This training program also promotes compassion and peaceful discourse, which are needed in order to create a brighter future.
A successful pilot of the training program this past summer (see testimonials) indicated a need to expand the course and create an online version. In short, I am writing you today to ask for your gift to make this training program affordable and accessible to all students. Over time, this valuable training is expected to result in graduates who are prepared for what employers need while promoting peace and compassion across the globe.
